Our seven-week summer internship introduces technology skills such as website design, app development, laser-cutting, 3D printing, virtual reality, and digital media production. With this emerging skill set, we will use technology as a means to address needs that we identify within our community, as a means to empower and enable mentorships, as an expressive medium, to learn about computer hardware and circuitry, and to build relationships with community stakeholders.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 16% of computer science graduates are female. Females who are in traditional classes report issues of self-efficacy, discrimination/stereotypes, and lack of sense of belonging. TECH-nique's mission is to provide a comfortable space for these underrepresented groups (minorities and females, with a special focus on minority females) in the field of computer science to learn computer programming and general technology skills. If you do not belong to that demographic but see value in what we are doing, we welcome you to apply. Everyone benefits when there is diversity in computer science.
